Flame on!

In the kettle tonight is an award-winning Best Bitter, modeled after cask conditioned Bass that is served in England. It’s a delicate balance between a straight-forward malt profile and the best English hops you can find. I’ve brewed this a few times before, and it won the English ales category in a brewing competition earlier this year. It’s a very easy beer to brew, and it would be an impressive first all-grain session for those who haven’t yet made the jump.

For 10 gallons (assumes 80% efficiency):
12.75 lb 2-row malt (Maris Otter preferred)
1.0 lb Crystal 60
1.5 oz Northdown leaf hops (aka UK Northern Brewer)
2.0 oz EKG leaf hops

Mash grains at 150F for 60 mins.
Boil for 60 mins, adding all of the hops in at beginning of the boil.

Ferment with any ale yeast. WLP001 or Wyeast 1056 are good, or your can try and English ale yeast for something with slightly higher fruitiness in the nose.
