Andrea took me to a concert tonight — Erykah Badu — at the DeKalb Atlanta Center. I’d never been to that venue before, but judging from the Budweiser ad on their web site, I figured the night to filled with all the Bud Light I could muster.
Thankfully, when we arrived we saw that Heineken sponsored the concert, part of the Kool Nu Jazz Festival. At least I’d have an imported beer to drink. As it turned out, even though the glass-fronted coolers had Guinness and other premium brands in them, the venue could only sell Heineken, either from draft or from their Keg Can package.
I tried both side by side to see if there was a discernable difference, and there was. The draft version seemed really fresh — nice crisp hop flavor and perfectly effervescent. It reminded me of the beer I had on the Heineken tour I had taken in Amsterdam. The Keg Can, by comparison, tasted tinny compared to the draft. The hop flavor was also a bit more muted, perhaps overwhelmed by the tinniness. After the taste test, I stuck to draft for the rest of the night.
