Chocolate lovers rejoice! Here’s a beer for you to enjoy this winter: Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (BCS).
This beer hails from Brooklyn Brewing Company in New York City. BCS is creation of renowned brewmaster and beer/food author Garrett Oliver, and is a world-standard for the Imperial Stout beer category. It is a very recent import to Georgia, as Brooklyn started distribution here in late summer.
For any readers with a hang-up on the way beer tastes, you should consider trying BCS. It pours like a light grade motor oil — syrupy and thick. The aroma makes no mistake that there is a roasty, chocolatey assault about to hit your taste buds. The first taste sensations are bittersweet chocolate, roasted grains, malted milk balls, and caramel. As it washes past the taste buds, the finish is slightly dry and accentuates the chocolate sensation. Though it is made without any chocolate in the production process (hard to believe!), this beer will make you swear you’ve just had a chocolate milkshake that calls itself a beer.
At 8.5% abv, BCS shouldn’t be found near your beer bong — it’s an easy sipping after-dinner beer. It also complements desserts like few other beers can. Chocolate truffles, a light chocolate mousse or a cheesecake with raspberry coulis are all worthy companions.
