Dinner calls (finally!).
Olio is the restaurant that is either attached to our hotel, or close enough to crawl to our hotel.
We’re having a beer with dinner to be social, but tonight’s activity is largely done.
I’m having a pizza, and Jay is having the pork medallions. Hopefully we’ll make our train to Dublin tomorrow.

The poster above the urinal trough can sometimes save your life. In this case, this poster warns of the possible additives in Ecstasy tablets.
Specifically, it warns that X might contain among other things:
> aspirin
> speed
> dog worming pills
> horse tranquilizers
> fish tank cleaning tablets
With all those additives, it’s no wonder that the kids are all over it!

After suffering through the bad music at White’s, we’ve moved on to The John Hewitt on Donegall St.
Here we are enjoying pints of Headless Dog from Hilden Brewing Co. The Dog is a very well crafted ale from a local brewery. It has a lighter body, and refreshing hop profile. Well done for the local brewers!
A dinner stop is in order soon…hope we find something close by.

We’ve moved on to White’s for some scientific analysis of Guinness draft vs. Guinness Extra Cold.
White’s, founded in 1630, is the oldest pub in Belfast. They also have some of the most moderm era entertainment (read: bad lounge band) around.
Back to the beer analysis. The Extra Cold version does seem to have more pronounced malt and hop flavors when first served. After warming up, the difference is still noticeable. I think I prefer the maltiness of the cold, for a change. Jay is firmly in the original recipe camp.

We’re having our first Guinness of our stay in Belfast at a small smoky place called Kelly’s Cellars.
This is the real deal — no tourists, and lots of great conversation. The saying on the wall behind Jay translates to “100,000 welcomes”.
Welcoming, indeed. Now it’s time for a pint of the black stuff.
