The Geaux Cup

The Geaux Cup

Mark demonstrates the proper way to ride a cab back to the airport — with a hurricane to go from Pat O’Brien’s.

Everything is portable in NoLA, including drinks, so why not enjoy one last sip for the road (assuming you’re in a cab, of course).

Abita Amber + Mother’s Debris — A Winning Combination

Abita Amber + Mother's Debris -- A Winning Combination

Mark and I decided to hop a flight to N’awlins for lunch and a game of cards. Having not been here since 2003, I’ve been craving a good roast beef sandwich. And Mother’s delivers.

It’s a family-run operation within stumbling distance of the Quarter. While their gumbo and ham are quite good, the Debris po-boy is Mother’s namesake.

The debris is made by pulling the roast beef from the bottom of the gravy pit and using it for the sandwich. The gravy is also ladled over the bread, making for a tasty meal.

The Abita amber is a surprisingly good accompaniment for the debris. A malty lager with great earthy hop presence, this amber is smooth and tasty.
