We’re finally here - it’s the 2007 Great Alaska Beer & Barleywine Festival, live from the Egan Center in downtown Anchorage, AK.
30 bucks gets you 30 2-oz samples of some of the biggest beers around. Not only fine pacific northwest ales, but beers from California and as far away as belgium.
We’re guessing 90/10 on the drunk dude/hot chick ratio. Guess the women know something we don’t.
Oooo … The jazz flute is kicking in. Time to drink.

I don’t.
The paucity of prettiness? … something that starts with “p” … is astounding.
No wonder women live longer - they’re hoping to get past this.

A big beer festival requires big reinforcements to get through the night.
Enter Jolt Ultra.
Weighing in at 25.6 ounces and packing zero calories (that’s right ladies), this is clearly the energizer of choice once the big beers kick in.
Mark and I each have one…we’ll see who makes it through the night.

Mark saw the dessert menu and thought he’d try something crazy — a beer float.
After trying the base Russian Imperial Stout — a vinous, port-like hearty dark ale with fig notes and strong vanilla/oak cask flavors — he started to add globs of their custardy vanilla ice cream. The end result: a tasty finish to a great brewpub visit.

We’re getting revved up for the festival with a warm-up lap at Glacier Brewhouse.
Mark’s sampler included a well-hopped IPA, a very spicy (and tasty!) hefeweizen, a nitro-served stout with mocha and chocolate notes (even vanilla?), a non-descript amber, and a soapy-tasting blonde ale.
Across the board, the beer offerings are very solid.
