Anchorage, out

Anchorage, out

We’re little anxious to get back to the ATL, so we’re hopping an Alaska Airlines to Seattle so we can catch the red-eye home from there.

It’s been a beer-laden trip, but the lack of sunlight here is too crushing to keep us here.

Moose juice

We’ve just arrived at the Moose’s Tooth, home of a dizzying array of killer pizzas and home-made brews.

Their stout and porter both won bronze medals at the GABF. Today we’re enjoying a sampler, including Darth Delirium (belgian stout), “his good little cousin” South Fork (crazy belgian pale with baker’s cocoa and orang peel), plus … An apple ale, winter warmer, stout, and a porter.

At $5 for 4 samples we’ll likely blow through the menu … And maybe a change of pants.

Brewery visit: Moose’s Tooth Pub and Pizzeria

Brewery visit: Moose's Tooth Pub and Pizzeria

We’ve managed to get a rental and make our way to Moose’s Tooth for lunch.

The draft list is dizzying (more from Mark on that one), and the 40 pizza choices almost caused a brain lock-up.

More yum yum to come.

Off to a good start

Posted at 2:06 pm by Patrick under Alaska Barley Wine Festival

We’re up and out of the Captian Cook hotel (insert pirate reference here, one last time), and strolled to the bus station to get to the airport car rental counter.

While we thought the bus came hourly at 45 past, it runs at 26 after on Saturdays. Drat.

From across the street from the bus station: the red neon glow of Kaladi Brothers coffee to the rescue.

It’s a comfy local coffee shop (since ‘86) that has great French roast coffee and tasty scones. We can get free refills all day (!!!) with the same cup. That is useful in a city with so much cold weather.

Next stop: driving in the snow.

Forgot the Snow Tires

Forgot the Snow Tires

TravelPro never mentioned snow traction in their baggage brochure. Our bags handled admirably, though, even when Patrick narrowly missed getting flattened by a plow. (That’s “Mr. Plow” to you…)
