Oscar® Goodness: PBR and a Last Supper clock

Oscar® Goodness: PBR and a Last Supper clock

The Oscar® party we’re attending has a theme — Red Neck Oscars® — and they’ve done a good job carrying it through.

To wit: the winners of the night’s drawings for Best (whatever) get cool prizes like Dale Earnhardt ashtrays, pink John Deere license plates, and this gem of a clock.

Combine that with the Krystals, pigs-in-blankets and Cheez Whiz, and it’s on.

A Happy Ending for Oscar® night

A Happy Ending for Oscar® night

We’ve decided to break our self-imposed house arrest and join David and Lenore for an Oscar® viewing party.

David had a sixer of Sweetwater’s Happy Ending imperial stout on hand, so we cracked one open to slake our thirsts.

According to the label, it’s a dry-hopped heavyweight at 9% alcohol. Once you get past the hops, there are notes of blueberry, toffee and even leather in there — and it’s tasty.

Summit’s Pale Ale in Minneapolis

Summit's Pale Ale in Minneapolis

I’m having dinner out with some clients, and happened upon a locally brewed pale ale from Summit’s here in St. Paul.

It’s a fine accompaniment for my pear and gorgonzola salad — the hoppiness cuts through the creaminess of the cheese and the malty sweetness matches the pears.
