Around the World: Name that Brand

Ah the joys of the ATM machine. while they make money exchange simple, you often times end up with hugely unusable bills. Having to break a 100 Dirham (roughly $28) bill, I stopped at the airport convenience mart for the cheapest purchase I could make. This drink was only 1 Drh (about $.28), and being a huge branding dork, I knew it right away, even without the English subtitles.

Can you name that brand? (Oh, and dig the pull-top on the can. Tasty.)

Around the World: Politics and Travel

The iXplor feature of Delta’s inflight entertainment system is quite often educational — So that’s where Syria is! We’re going 610 mph? — but today’s display offers a subtle reminder about how global politics can also affect seemingly unrelated things.

While not quite Bugs Bunny’s perverbial “right turn at Albuquerque”, a close look at the map shows our pilots took care to avoid Iraqi airspace. While it probably only added a few minutes to our overall trip, it makes me wonder how many other airlines have to make similar concessions on account of their governments’ foreign policies.
