It seems hard to believe that it was 10 years ago that Hong Kong was turned back over to Chinese rule. Since then, this SAR (special administrative region) of China has been wrapped back into the mainland mix, including stumping for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Is it really 8 months from the Olympics again?

It’s a foggy morning in Hong Kong today. Since my sleep patterns are not quite settled yet, I was up promptly at 445am (!). While I wasn’t necessarily hoping for an early start, I’ve been able to see some of the city before it woke up.
The guidebooks say go to the Peak when it’s a clear day, for amazing views of the harbor. The early start, while not ideal for that harbor photo, gave me the entire peak to myself. It’s a contemplative place, with many residents doing Tai Chi to start the day.
Here’s to your having a reflective moment today!

This cameraphone photo probably does not do this scene any justice, but the Hong Kong skyline at night is pretty magnificent.
Each night at 8pm, there is a bit of a light show, with “lasers” and such. I happened to board the 8pm ferry, and caught the action during my harbor crossing.
Good times, indeed.

One of the benefits of working for an airline is being able to use reciprocal benefits on other carriers. Today, I’m using that benefit to get a space-available seat to Hong Kong for super cheap. I won’t say how much, but rest assured it costs less than gas money from Atlanta to Chattanooga and back.
More later from Hong Kong!
