Finally. A beer.

After a couple of days of furious touring with my parents in the LA basin, I’ve finally managed to work a beer stop into the mix.
Library Alehouse is a smallish place on Main St. in Santa Monica. It has a well-curated tap list, 20ish taps from the west coast and beyond, including a number of holiday ales from Anchor, Sierra Nevada, and others.
I’ve started with a half-pint of Oaken Bastard from Stone Brewing. It’s a oak-cellared version of their Arrogant Bastard brew. The woody sensation is pronounced but very smooth, and actually helps tame the extreme hop profile of the base beer.
I’ll be ordering a flight of samples for the next round…more when they get here.

Sounds good - glad to see you stopped for the important things!
I managed to work-in a brew-stop at the new 5 Seasons in Alpharetta in conjunction with a visit with an old film school buddy, Scott. We went by on Thursday afternoon - only about 30 minute drive. Saw Crawford on his way out, but didn’t get to talk. Tried his whiskey-barrel aged Belgian Dubbel; very similar to the way whiskey-ish Dogwood Winter of old, but still pretty darn tasty. Also had some sort of porter, I think, made by the previous brewmaster for Embers, Julie.

Were you getting the shakes? Have you made any beer plans for this New Year’s Eve?

No plans yet –- we just got back from LA a few minutes ago. And with all the fog we have in Atlanta right now, my parents can’t get out to Richmond tonight. That means even more fun with the fam, if we can all stay awake. We got up at 4am PST (7am in the east) to make our 6am flight, so there are no guarantees we’lll be tripping the lights tonight.
