ROC: local, but pricey beer

I’m on a trip to the Belgium Comes to Cooperstown festival at Brewery Ommegang — as a volunteer, and a participant.

Due to some last minute flight changes, I’ve flown into Rochester, NY, rather than my preferred destination (Syracuse). After 6 hours of traveling (with delays), a beer sounded pretty good. Enter the J.W.Dundee Bar at ROC.

Not a brewpub, the bar serves beer that is at least made in the local area. Rather than go for the namesake Honey Brown, I opted for the pale bock (only because the IPA, which is the summer seasonal, is not in stock yet). For an airport beer, i’s not bad. The label’s promise of a "big and malty lager" is mostly true, if a little prickly from the carbonation and slight alcohlic bite. At $6 a bottle (!!), it’s a quick way to lose a handful of your ducats in a smallish airport.

More later from the interior of NY state.
