Brewery visit: Sumidagawa Brewing Co.

Finally, my first Japanese microbrew!

23 Banchi Cafe Sumidagawa Brewing Co. Is right on the Sumida River, and a short walk from Senso-Ji. Ironically, it’s the house brewery adjacent to the Asahi headquarters — the Golden Turd building designed by Philippe Starck.

I’m hoisting a Sumidagawa Alt, their somewhat fruitier take on the German interpretation of the style. It’s clean, malty and easy drinking for today’s sunny 82 degree weather. Andrea’s Weiss bier is a little heavy on the banana but missing some of the classic cloviness the style requires.
